Planet Saturn and the Solar System
Learning about the planet Saturn and about the other planets that make up the nine planets of the solar system can be a very interesting way to spend your time right here at DigablePlanets.org. There are many facts about Saturn and about the stars and the solar system in general that are very entertaining to behold. Saturn is among one of the most talked about planets in the solar system because of the ring that is visible around the planet which is comprised of space rocks in orbit around it. The rings that are around the planet Saturn used to be known as unique to it but in recent years (1977) astronomers have discovered rings around the planet Uranus through telescopes. The rings around Uranus were not visible until the technology behind telescopic vision was improved and the faint rings were then noticeable. Saturn has been noticed as a planet since the times when Galileo first observed it in 1610. The now famous astronomer was confused by the rings around Saturn as no other planet was seen to have them at the time.
In more recent years, Saturn has been visited by many spacecrafts on expeditions to outer space. The Pioneer spacecraft that was manufactured by NASA visited the planet in 1979 for the first time. In addition to this, the Voyagers 1 and 2 were put into orbit around Saturn in 2004. Other facts about Saturn include that it has an interior similar to that of Jupiter's in that it has a rocky core and is comprised of Helium in a metallic and molecular state. This interior is also very hot at a staggering degrees Kelvin. The most noticeable feature that can be observed with Saturn besides its rings, include the luminosity of the planet. Saturn is one of the most visible planets in the solar system from Earth besides Jupiter. This feature of Saturn is under much debate and speculation.
