Planet Uranus and the Solar System

Planet Uranus was discovered thanks to astronomy. Astronomy is the study of space including the nine planets, the stars and the solar system we live in. This area of study can be a very interesting area to get into if you like to learn about the origins of the universe. The solar system encompasses many mysteries about space and may just hold the key to how the stars and the planet earth formed and how life began on this great planet. In studying the solar system and the nine planets it is important to look beyond what you may already know and to study these entities in more detail if you want to get a good glimpse of how life began on the planet Earth. It is also interesting to study other planets in our solar system such as the planet Uranus so we will explore this planet in this particular discussion.

Facts about Uranus are based on many years of research and much observation of the solar system, the stars, and the nine planets in general. The word Uranus is derived from the Greek word meaning deity of the heavens meaning that Uranus was the original God in Greek literature. It is interesting to note that Uranus was the son of Gaia in Greek text and was also her mate. In addition to this, Uranus was the father of Cronus which is synonymous with the word used to name the planet Saturn. In terms of the planet Uranus itself, this was the first planet that was discovered in these modern times. Before the discovery of Uranus by a man named William Herschel in 1781 it had been known as just another one of the stars. Herschel name the planet Georgium Sidus and the name stuck for several years until 1850 when it was renamed Uranus in honor of the other Greek names of the other planets.
